What is the difference between Suites and Apartments?

Milestone Senior Living offers a choice of a studio, one bedroom or two bedroom apartments. The one bedroom and two bedroom apartments have their own fully-equipped kitchenettes and either a patio or a balcony. The Suites are studio apartments with their own private bathrooms. The Suites are just down the hall from the one- and two-bedroom apartments.

How big are the Studios and the Apartments?

Milestone Senior Living offers a floor plan for each living environment, from the studios to the one bedroom and two bedroom accommodations. To see a floor plan, ask your Community Director.

Are you staffed 24 hours?

Yes, Milestone Senior Living is staffed with awake staff 24 hours – 7 days per week. Our staff have routine duties to perform in addition to ensuring we meet and exceed our residents’ and tenants’ wishes.

How many people are on staff at a time?

Milestone Senior Living has staff available to meet the needs of each of our residents.

In general, we have at least 6 people on campus during the day and evening and then at least 3 on campus overnight (awake all night).

We base our staffing levels on individual assessments, so we bring in additional staff when residents have greater needs.

Do you have a nurse?

Yes, Milestone Senior Living has a nurse who routinely checks medications and the overall wellness of our residents. Although a nurse cannot prescribe or initiate a care or service without a physician order, they can reassure the resident or tenant that we are evaluating their condition and taking care of their concerns or questions.

In addition, Milestone Senior Living has a regional RN that is routinely in the house and can serve as backup to the house nurse should the need arise.

How much training does your staff receive?

Milestone Senior Living goes above and beyond the State-required training at all levels, both at hire and on an ongoing basis.

At hire, our staff train on the job and in the classroom before they can work a scheduled shift. Once our staff start, we have monthly training in meetings and online learning.

Every year, we train any new staff as Dementia Specialists to ensure we safely and effectively provide the best care for residents or tenants that have dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. Learn more about our Memory services and dementia care.

What is included in the base rent?

Milestone Senior Living offers a variety of services in the base rent. Included in the base rent are:

  • Heating
  • cooling
  • water
  • sewer
  • basic cable TV
  • Wi-Fi
  • housekeeping
  • laundry
  • three meals per day
  • snacks throughout the day and evening

Some assistance such as medication administration, bathing or dressing may also be included.

What determines the price to stay at Milestone?

Milestone Senior Living only wants you to pay for what you need when you need it.

Your costs are determined by the type of room you select (Studio, One-bedroom, Two-bedroom) and the needs from your individual assessment.

As you age in place or as your needs increase, Milestone can accommodate you by adding the needed staff and services when you need it most. We only increase costs for long-term chronic changes (with a 30-day notice); we pride ourselves on not ‘nickel and diming’ residents for short-term acute needs like having the flu or a broken arm.

We are here to serve you and meet your needs. Contact your Location’s Community Director for specific pricing.

Can I pay with insurance?

This depends on your long-term insurance, which not everyone has. (Note: this is different than your health insurance.) Check your policy to find out what’s covered. Many older policies may not have assisted living listed as an option. Always check with your long-term care agent; we don’t look at your policy to determine this.

At this time, the vast majority of our residents are not paying with insurance.

What happens if I run out of private pay monies?

We know living in Assisted Living anywhere is expensive. Milestone is a resource to you and can provide you with contacts at the State and County level in determining what the next steps may be.

Milestone Senior Living’s Mission Statement includes ‘being a resource to the community’ which means we do set aside a few suites or apartments for non-private pay residents or tenants. Keeping Milestone informed about your financial situation helps everyone get through the process and find the best solutions if private pay monies run out.

Can both my parents be together?

Milestone Senior Living would prefer your mother and father be together whenever possible. We have the luxury to accommodate both parents in either the apartments or the studios. Being a campus (with Apartments and Suites) allows us the opportunity to meet the needs of both parents.

What if my mother doesn’t like the dinner menu being served?

Cooking and baking from scratch are what we do best. Our Culinary Director requests recipes from our residents and tenants to incorporate these into the menu.

Milestone always offers a substitute entrée or vegetable should your mother want something else.

Just like at your home, a great meal together encourages good health, increased energy, and a sense of community. In addition, snacks are available throughout the day.

How do you handle end of life care?

We want our residents to be able to choose to remain in their homes at Milestone Senior Living. We offer end of life care by contracting with hospice agencies that our residents, tenants and their families trust. The families choose which hospice agency they want, and that agency contracts with Milestone.
